Menopause is the permanent cessation of a woman’s monthly cycle in association with the loss of ovarian function. It is part of the normal life cycle for all women and usually affects women between the ages of 45 and 55 with the peak being ages 50- 51 although the symptoms may begin as much is 10-15 years prior to that. In addition to the problems often associated with menopause, this “change of life” usually brings a newfound freedom from monthly periods and the worry of pregnancy

The transition to menopause varies from woman to woman; sometimes it can be as brief as a few months to as lengthy as 10 years, the average is approximately seven-eight years. Symptoms of menopause vary from woman to woman, but are usually defined as hot flashes, night sweats, irregular menstrual cycles, insomnia, mood changes, fatigue, forgetfulness, weight gain and slowed metabolism, vaginal dryness, and decreased libido.
